You might be asking, “What is community solar?” Great question. In a nutshell, community solar programs allows customers, like you, to purchase solar subscriptions to a shared, renewable resource. All without the hassle and expense of a rooftop solar installation on
your home.
If you’re a residential or business customer in one of our participating communities, you are eligible to purchase panel subscriptions to an R4 Solar billboard in your city. If panel subscriptions exceed the capability of the local billboard, solar will be purchased from Central Municipal Power Agency/Services (CMPAS), our joint power agency.
Finally, in case you’re wondering, R4 represents the four foundational elements of our renewable energy programs:

If you’re a homeowner or business owner in one our participating communities, you are eligible to enroll in R4 Solar. Once enrolled, you’ll be allocated a portion of our solar garden in Owatonna, MN.
How It Works

After you’ve reviewed the R4 Solar Enrollment Packet and determined how many community solar panels you are interested in subscribing to, the next step is to submit your application to your local utility. The enrollment form is located below, only takes a few minutes to complete, and will be sent directly to your local utility for processing.
Once you’ve completed the R4 Solar application and contract with your local utility, you’re ready to go! Your only job from here on out is paying your utility bill each month and enjoying the benefits of clean, renewable energy.
You can join R4 Solar any time of year, but all contracts expire every June 30. So, to keep enjoying R4 Solar at your home or business, remember to contact your utility to re-enroll and keep the solar energy coming!
